Red Prairie Press

Rachel Bone runs a one-woman screen printed apparel line in Baltimore called Red Prairie Press. I recently had the opportunity to meet Rachel at the Art Star Craft Bazaar in Philadelphia & see her wonderful creations in person. Her hand-printed apparel designs are made in her home studio using water-based low-toxicity ink. Inspired by Scandinavian, Dutch, Russian & Oaxacan folk art, as well as nature and vintage objects, her new designs feature cuckoo clocks, ferns, feathers and folkloric birds. The Scandinavian Bird and Cuckoo Clocks tank tops are perfect for spring & summer. The terrific cuckoo clocks design is also available on sleeveless tees. The stylish jersey cotton scarves are big sellers, and I love the light-weight Feather cardigan that is perfect for a cool day. Rachel's line of clothing is sold through various websites, as well as at craft fairs and retail stores all over the country. Receive a 15% discount with coupon code FUNKYDEALS (expires June 6).

*GIVEAWAY - Closed - Congrats Mel! Red Prairie Press is giving away a Cuckoo Clocks Triblend Tank. There are several ways to enter this giveaway. Ends at 9pm EST, Sunday, June 6.

Prudy's Country Crafts

I love fun and funky socks and that's exactly what Prudy's Country Crafts offers. Based in Northern Vermont, Prudy Marchessault's love of knitting is evident in her lovely handcrafted items. Her mix & match socks make great gifts - for yourself or someone you love. I love the lime green, blue & purple combination, as well as the mix & match blue & green socks. The orange socks are also eye-catching and fun. And, they are available in full length or ankle length. All socks are made using 100% acrylic yarn that is lightweight, yet warm, and machine washable.

Art Star Craft Bazaar Recap

Joe and I recently attended the Art Star Craft Bazaar in Philadelphia & I wanted to highlight some of the talented vendors. The show was held at Penn's Landing on the Delaware River Waterfront which was a very nice setting.

I love Nate Duval's artwork. Once we have a permanent home, I would love to decorate with a few of Nate's prints, such as Hootie and Flowers 2. I've also been a fan of the Aquatic Cowboy (pictured) for some time.

Tasha McKelvey creates lots of great ceramic pieces. I love her small bowls adorned with squirrels and birds. At the show, she had the cutest garden gnome plant stakes (pictured), as well as hedgehogs (one of which I nabbed for myself).

Endless Hats & Endless Records features handmade hats and bags, as well as fine quality music from Bloomsburg, PA. They had a variety of great hats & I especially loved their handbags made of vintage tea towels.

Joe and I were both in awe of the unique accessories created by Jesse Walker of Realm Jewelry. I am especially intrigued by the Cameo Pin Cluster necklaces and the Hard Candy Triple Pin necklace.

Angela Davidson is an extremely talented fiber artist. We were enamored with her lovable and lively creatures. All her creations are so well-made and have such personality. The large-lipped squids and Giraffarina (pictured) were among our favorites.

We purchased the best-smelling candle from Melo Studios. These eco-friendly soy candles are available in recyclable tin canisters or in various upcycled glasses and tea cups. We purchased a honeysuckle scent in an adorable mushroom glass.

Sharing a booth were Soda Bomb and Rotorcaps. Both feature accessories made from repurposed or upcycled materials, such as rotorcaps and vintage bottle caps. I purchased a funky pair of My Pops vintage soda bottle cap earrings (pictured). I also wanted the dog earrings & necklace from Rotorcaps, but had to stick to my budget.

And, on a local note, if you happen to be in Philly and are looking for a not-so ordinary date night, check out The Clay Studio. They offer a date night once a month where the instructors will walk you through a few simple projects, or you are free to make your own creations. Your work will be glazed, fired, and ready for you to take home in approximately two weeks after the event. Beer, wine, snacks, materials and firings are all included. The next date night is Friday, June 18.

Tru.che features handmade accessories created by Chicago-based designer Stephanie Koerner. Her World of Love collection explores new ways to express local love through custom jewelry designs. These thoughtful and unique accessories are the perfect way to show some love for your home state or an area you have come to love. Since moving to Pennsylvania from Texas, I have so missed my home state. The I Heart Texas necklace is the perfect way for me to show some real Texas pride & keep home close to my heart. Of course, these aren't just for Americans. There are lovely designs for proud Canadians, Italians, and more. And you will need a pair of matching heart studs recycled from the necklace's heart cutouts to accompany your necklace. If you're looking for designs that aren't state or country-specific, Stephanie offers many great pieces, such as vintage glass earrings and the wood grain heart necklace. Receive free shipping when you mention Funky Finds in the comment section at checkout.

Inexplicable Confetti

Inexplicable Confetti features art, clothing and curiosities created by New Orleans-based Phillip Whitmore. We all remember the damage Hurricane Katrina inflicted on New Orleans and the Evacuation Nation tee is an ode to this area's trouble with such natural disasters. You will see the Fleur De Lis symbol everywhere in New Orleans, including on their football team, so Phillip has created a Scrolling Fleur De Lis tee. I really like the purple & gold tee that sports a unique design that could possibly become Mardi Gras's Coat of Arms. If you happen to be in New Orleans, be sure to visit Phillip in person the fist Saturday of each month at The Freret Market or the last Saturday of every month at the Arts Market of New Orleans (located at the corner of Carrollton and Claiborne).

Silent Sea Studios

Jill Lopes of Silent Sea Studios creates a variety of great headwear. I love funky hats and Jill's designs definitely fit the bill. The Silver Snake Bucket Hat is a sleek designed that has been upcycled from a pair of of designer pants. I absolutely love the bold print found on the Mod Flower Cap (pictured), another great upcycled design. Purple is my favorite color, so I am prone to the Purple Nub Cloche. And if you're in the market for a classic look, the Camel Cloche with Vintage Pin and 50s Vintage Inspired Red Hat may be just what you're searching for.

Healing Maggie Grace Raffle

A few weeks ago, fellow blogger and artist, Teresa Atkinson, shared her battle with a kidney stone, much to the amusement of her blog friends. Unfortunately, her prognosis was much more serious. Teresa learned that she had kidney cancer & would need to prepare for immediate surgery so her kidney could be removed. Sadly, Teresa's insurance does not cover this "out of network" doctor, although it does cover part of her surgery. Her deductible is $5,000 for the surgery alone, and follow-up care, chemo, etc. will not be covered by her insurance.

Two bloggers, Jen and MaryAnn, have organized an online raffle to help ease the financial burden Teresa is facing. With a Senior in high school and a college Freshman, Teresa's budget is already tight, and we don't want Teresa to have to struggle with tens of thousands of dollars of medical debt.

Funky Finds has donated a tote bag (minus actual dog) featuring our Chihuahua logo filled with swag. These items are part of a grouping of other items you can bid on this Friday, May 7.

Each piece is handmade from high-fired stoneware clay and fired to 2400 degrees in a 50 cubic foot downdraft kiln. These unique and affordable vases are a beautiful way to welcome Spring. I especially love the vase featuring a sweet little bunny perched on the side (pictured). Kim also offers lovely tea bag coasters - a great gift for any tea lover!
