Funky Finds Updates

In the last year, Funky Finds has evolved tremendously. We have been working to streamline many of Funky Finds services, making it easier for hardworking artists, crafters, designers & event organizers to spread the word about their businesses & events. The services page has been recently overhauled.

As always, The Shops @ Funky Finds remains an affordable & easy-to-use venue that enables users to sell their handmade & vintage goods. Active Shop owners receive a free 120x120 banner ad that rotates on many Funky Finds web pages.

The worldwide events calendar has also been revamped a bit. Organizers & participants may now submit event details (including application deadlines) for a small fee. Submitted events are also included in Funky Finds' monthly newsletter that is sent to thousands of subscribers around the globe.

In addition to the semiannual events Funky Finds hosts in Fort Worth, Texas, shoppers & participants will be able to attend similar events in Longview, Texas! The 4th Annual Funky Finds Spring Fling will be held March 10 & 11 in Fort Worth. The inaugural Longview event will be held April 21 & 22. Details will soon be posted on the events page. Visit us in Fort Worth on November 12 & 13 for Funky Finds: A Holiday Shopping Experience! Interested in participating as a vendor or sponsor at future events? Funky Finds continues to offer a variety of affordable ad sizes that rotate on multiple Funky Finds web pages. Users are able to log in at any time to view stats & edit their ad. This is a cost-effective way to target shoppers interested in handcrafted items.

Our sister company, Right On! Graphics, offers web and print media that are Right On! We offer custom design services, as well as high-quality, affordable promotional materials, such as business cards, magnets & digitally printed vinyl banners. If you participate in events at which you sell your work, our eye-catching, durable banners will draw attention to your booth space. Find us on Facebook, too!

And, of course, you can keep up with handmade happenings via Funky Finds' Facebook page. It is often updated with real-time information, including designer calls, application deadlines, links to helpful articles, and much more.

Funky Finds' Fourth Anniversary & Giveaway (closed)

Tomorrow marks the FOURTH ANNIVERSARY of Funky Finds! I started this blog as a hobby, a fun way to bring funky handmade items to people's attention. The site has continued to grow over the past few years, first by offering advertising opportunities & giveaways, then launching the Funky News, our monthly newsletter. We then established The Shops @ Funky Finds, an online marketplace showcasing handmade items from sellers around the world.

We eventually hosted our first indie art & craft show in Fort Worth, Texas, last April. The event was successful & we recently hosted the second annual event on March 13. I couldn't have been more pleased with the quality of artisans that participated, nor with the number of attendees. It was a great day and we are currently nailing down the details for a fall event! I hope that Funky Finds continues to grow so we can effectively promote more & more talented artists, crafters & designers around the globe. Of course, none of it would be possible without your support so a big THANK YOU to all who read this blog regularly!!!

As a thank you, I am hosting my own giveaway to celebrate Funky Finds' fourth anniversary. The winner will receive a Funky Finds tote bag, a blue Funky Finds tee (M or L), some funky swag, and a $10 credit to The Shops @ Funky Finds!

There are several ways to enter & multiple entries are encouraged! Giveaway ends at Midnight EST, Monday, April 5.

1. Follow this blog (top right sidebar) & leave a comment with your profile name.

2. Become a Funky Finds fan on Facebook & leave a comment with your name.

3. Visit The Shops @ Funky Finds & leave a comment noting one of your favorite items.

4. Subscribe to the Funky News, our monthly newsletter.

*Giveaway is now closed. Congrats Susan!

2010 Funky Finds Spring Fling

A quick reminder that we are currently accepting vendor applications through November 15 for the 2010 Funky Finds Spring Fling. In April, we hosted the first Spring Fling and it was a major success. Join us on March 13, 2010, in Fort Worth, Texas, for the 2nd Annual Funky Finds Spring Fling!

Also, we will be having a charitable raffle featuring items donated by all participating vendors. The raffle will benefit CASA of Tarrant County and Humane Society of North Texas.

If you'd like to sponsor the event and/or advertise in the event booklet, you can find all pertinent information on the Spring Fling website.

Online Magazines

With the recent folding of many big name magazine, online publications seem to be the current hot ticket. We recently advertised The Shops @ Funky Finds in the latest issues of VivaLaModa magazine & N.E.E.T. Magazine. Both are run by talented, hard-working, and creative women.

VivaLaModa is a bi-monthly magazine created to show the fashionable handmade things that, as well as articles about green products, toys, decoration, product reviews and much more. This publication strives to support indie designers and crafters who make things with their own hands, as well as funky vintage items.

N.E.E.T. Magazine is the brainchild of UK-based editor Stephanie J, who hand-picks, designs and organizes everything! The magazine began in December 2005 as a quarterly, online publication, laid out in a magazine format - as a showcase for grassroots creativity. It showcases wonderful pieces contributed by talented people based all around the globe.

Funky Finds Spring Fling

On April 25, Funky Finds will be hosting a fantastic indie craft fair. The Funky Finds Spring Fling will feature tons of terrific items created by various artists, crafters & designers. Many of the vendors are from the Dallas-Fort Worth area; however, we have a nice mix of "out-of-towners" participating, as well.

We have a couple of opportunities for those of you who are looking to promote your work. We will be giving away 50 handmade swag bags full of goodies. If you would like to contribute items to be included in the bags, please contact me.

Also, we will be printing 5,000 full-color glossy booklets to be handed out at the event, as well as locally and through special mailings. If you would like to advertise in the booklet, you can view all ad rates & sizes on our site. You can also purchase your ad space online.

It is going to be a wonderfully funky event right in the heart of Fort Worth, Texas. The venue is a very cool industrial type building that is perfect for housing all the funky artisans who will be there.

We hope to see you there on April 25!!!

Magpie Mary

One definition of a magpie is a person who collects or hoards things. I try my best to avoid being a magpie, but when looking at my craft room some may say I'm just that. I guess most people have some "magpie tendencies." Those who do can relate to the wonderful Magpie Mary shop that is full of miscellaneous treasures ranging from rubber stamps to vintage game numbers. All the lovely items in the vintage jar of tiny things especially piqué my interest. And being the paper hoarder that I am I am extremely tempted to purchase the 60s magazine ads! Have a look at all the interesting & diverse items Magpie Mary has to offer. And receive 15% off (less shipping) until September 30 with discount code FUNKY9. Enter code in the "message to seller" section, check out as usual, and a reimbursement will be made through PayPal.

One such opportunity is the 2008 Designer Chick Contest. The winner will receive tons of great prizes that will aid in promoting their business, including one month of advertising here on Funky Finds! If you are interested in participating, you can read all the rules & info here. Good luck to all the chicks who enter!
